KUCHING (July 20): The RM150 million electricity infrastructure upgrading project in Samarahan Division is progressing steadily, with 106 out of 1,660 Medium Voltage Covered Conductor (MVCC) electricity poles installed to date.
State Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the major project, funded by the Sarawak Government, involves upgrading 124km of transmission lines from Asajaya and Sadong Jaya across the Batang Sadong Bridge to Sebuyau, with another branch extending to Simunjan and Gedong.
“The MVCC upgrading works have commenced smoothly.
“I had the opportunity to inspect the latest progress of the upgrading works in the Samarahan Division, which began in Asajaya District or Sadong Jaya Sub-District this morning before continuing to Sebuyau,” he said in a Facebook post following his working visit on Sunday.

The inspection covered several project sites, including Simpang 4, Sadong Jaya; Kampung Sungai Bulu Jetty in Sebangan, Sebuyau; and Kampung Sungai Lumut in Sebangan, Sebuyau.
Julaihi also highlighted significant progress on another key component of the project involving the installation of a 1.8km twin submarine cable beneath the Sadong River near the Batang Sadong Bridge.
“The cable is being buried 1.5 metres (five feet) beneath the riverbed and was almost fully installed as of this morning,” he said.
He added that the project is expected to enhance the reliability and stability of electricity supply for residents and businesses in Samarahan Division while supporting the region’s future development.
Accompanying Julaihi during the visit were deputy minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang, deputy minister for Infrastructure and Port Development and Sadong Jaya assemblyman Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, and deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Syed Fauzi Sahab.
