KUCHING (Jan 10): Temporary repair works are underway on the 1,050mm Mild Steel Cement Lined (MSCL) pipeline following a pipe burst caused by a landslide at Jalan Batu Kitang/Jalan Haji Baki here on Friday.

Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd in a statement said the repairs aim to restore normal system operation while maintaining system integrity and supply reliability.

“All works are being carried out in accordance with engineering best practices, safety protocols and operational control requirements,” the utility company said.

The repairs are weather-dependent, and may be temporarily suspended during heavy rainfall due to safety risks, including ground instability and potential further landslide movement.

A permanent diversion of the pipeline will be implemented later following detailed technical and engineering assessments to ensure long-term safety and reliability, the company added.

Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd thanked the public for their patience and cooperation and said further updates would be provided as the situation progresses.

Preparatory works, including site clearing, were completed on Friday as part of risk mitigation measures following the road shoulder embankment failure.

The Public Works Department (JKR) also coordinated a temporary road diversion that night to ensure traffic flow and public safety.
