SIBU: Work on the RM79 million project to supply 10.5 million litres of treated water to some 40,000 people in Matu and Daro districts daily is progressing well and is scheduled to be completed on Dec 5.
This initiative by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development is designed to ensure sufficient piped water supply for the two districts until 2020.
The project comprised a new raw water intake and pumping station and a water treatment plant made up of mixing tank, flocculation basin, and sedimentation tanks.
It will also have a chemical store, chemical house, treated water pump house, power house, barracks, and balancing reservoirs.
Igan MP Datuk Wahab Dollah visited the project site recently and was briefed by Public Works Department (Central Region) office manager, John Aten.
The project, which was contracted to Konsortium Mewah Kota Sdn Bhd–Pembinaan Nomisual on June 6, 2010, is scheduled to be completed this coming Dec 5.
