Posted on 20 Oct 2011

LIMBANG: The government has allocated RM30 million for the rural electrification scheme of 35 locations in Bukit Kota and Batu Danau state constituencies.

Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang said of the amount, RM18 million was for 13 locations including eight in his constituency and five in Bukit Kota last year.

The balance of RM12 million will be for 22 locations in Batu Danau and seven in Bukit Kota this year in the government delivery of basic utilities for the benefit of the rural population in both constituencies which are under Limbang parliamentary seat.

“Basic infrastructures and amenities are to lighten the burden of the people in the interior, and we call upon the local communities to offer their cooperation to the contractor to facilitate project implementation,” he said.

The assemblyman said this in a dialogue with his constituents at the Resident’s Office yesterday.

It was also attended by representative of the Resident’s Office, Saiful Bahri Alwi; Sadia deputy chairman Jangan Bakar; and Mohamad Duri who is head of operations for contractor Citra Alti Sdn Bhd.

The Ministry of Rural Development is actively pursuing communication through expanding village roads programme in the district.

About RM5 million worth of projects are under tender by the authorities.

Also in the pipeline are water supply projects for the rural population.

Mohamad Duri said the dialogue was undertaken by the company to inform the community of the process of installing electricity post and regulations under the power ordinance involving Sesco.

“Locals must allow for the cutting of trees obstructing or along the path of the power lines for safety reasons, and we do not want any untoward incident to occur,” he said.

Mohamad said fatal accidents had occurred in the past during installation of power lines when locals failed to comply with safety requirements.

He suggested the local community set up an electricity supply committee to act and oversee the safety of people and electrical equipment.
