KUCHING (Sept 21): Ten individuals from the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) were recognised for their outstanding achievements in 2023 and were awarded with Service Excellence Awards (APC) in an appreciation ceremony here on Friday.

Meanwhile, 87 ministry officers who achieved performance ratings of Annual Performance Assessment Report scores of 85 per cent and above were also acknowledged during the event.

“Congratulations and well done. I hope these outstandings achievements will continue to improve in the coming years as the public constantly evaluates the quality of work through the level of service delivery provided by civil servants.

“Therefore, we must set standards and KPIs to meet the expectations of the people throughout Sarawak,” said Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi.

Julaihi said the APC is a token of the government’s appreciation for the exemplary performance of civil servants as well as a source of motivation for all staff to continue delivering excellent service.

“This does not mean those who were not among the selected 10 are not doing well. I believe there is a quota that guides the selection of award recipients.

“Nevertheless, everyone plays a crucial role in ensuring the overall excellence of the ministry’s services. The selection of the 10 winners is a comparison but there are still plenty of opportunities for others to be recognised in the future,” he said in his speech at the ceremony.

He encouraged all staff to continue fostering the teamwork established to continue driving the ministry forward successfully in the future.

Julaihi said MUT and the Sarawak government as a whole always values the contributions of civil servants as they are the key driving force and assets in the administration of any organisation.

“Every one of you is important not only to the ministry but the Sarawak government. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and valued — without you, we would not be able to move forward efficiently.

“It is not right for anybody to say that you haven’t contributed. I’ve heard such remarks before but the truth is, everybody has a role and everyone has contributed to the success we have achieved. I believe there are more successes we are going to achieve in the near future, so your roles are equally important and are of value to us in the near future,” he said.
